A diversified global engineering group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Energy Business Development Manager to join their Cape Town team to service global operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience in taking utility-scale projects (Solar PV and other power generation) through the full development cycle from conceptualisation through to financial close and would thus be proficient at the construction of cost models, the evaluation of economic and resource studies, and verification of project feasibility. This means that you must have strong people and financial skills, be able to work independently and in a team environment, a keen eye for detail, be able to “see the bigger picture” and exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset. Technical knowledge to enable Preliminary Economic Assessments independently is preferred.
The successful candidate would need to understand Solar PV exceptionally well, but also agnostically understand and evaluate other energy generation and storage technologies to select the optimal solution for each opportunity (HFO, wind, hybrid, diesel etc).
Some key skills will include; early stage resource evaluation, site identification, connectivity assessment (to validate project viability leading up to pre-feasibility and full feasibility of multiple-MW sized projects) and management of 3rd party service providers and EPC contractors. The company has a global reach and as such international experience would be preferred. This would be an autonomous role and as such they should be able to bring a large network/pipeline along with them.
- University degree (engineering preferred) (MBA is a plus)
- Demonstrable track record in successful financial close in the development and implementation of large projects (5MW plus)
- Experience in project feasibility/finance/with direct exposure to utility scale PV Projects
- Previous international experience preferred
- Able and willing to travel out of the country
