We are looking for a hybrid - a Business Developer and Project Developer of IPP projects in East Africa, ideally someone who is well versed with the Kenyan landscape and who not only understands the legislative and regulatory requirements but is well networked within the energy sector and able to build relationships with potential industry partners. You will not be new to running with projects, from concept to financial close, and project origination is something you will have firmly cemented under your experience belt. Being in the IPP space, long lead times will be nothing new to you, so your ability to remain motivated is key in this business development role. We are looking for someone with a firm understanding of the financial side of projects (hence your work on negotiating PPA's is vital), this will form a large portion of your knowledge base, but more importantly, you are a skilled professional when it comes to the due diligence aspects of acquiring a project. Especially since you will be working on multi-million dollar tenders. Postgraduate education in Engineering, Commerce, Finance or Law
MBA is advantageous
At least 3+ years’ experience within the wind and solar industry in Africa
Previous experience in the development/acquisition of power plant projects (between 20MW-50MW) is essential
A good understanding of the full development cycle and its implementation is key
Strong financially modelling, commercial agreement negotiation and reporting experience is a must
Experience handling pre-qualification actionables including; project feasibility, tender document preparation, tendering, PPA's, grid connectivity understanding, financial modelling, tender analyses and making recommendations
Experienced in stakeholder engagement and familiar with the permitting requirements of IPP space in Kenya to fulfil the project parameters per the bid process and lenders requirements
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to speak additional languages including Swahili, Arabic, French and Portuguese is advantageous
Ability to coordinate and manage teams across the early-stage project life-cycle
Must be willing to travel throughout East Africa and later Africa
