Our client, a dynamic and fast-scaling renewable energy developer and energy trader, is seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer/Head of Finance to join the executive leadership team and drive financial excellence, capital strategy, and long-term growth.

With an objective to deliver an excess of 3GW of new renewable energy by 2030, this business is at the forefront of developing, financing, and operating large-scale renewable projects that empower private offtakers and major industrial users across the region.

About the Role

As CFO/Head of Finance, you will lead the full financial agenda of the organisation. You will develop a high-performing finance function, steer capital decision-making, manage group financial performance, and ensure robust governance aligned to shareholder and regulatory standards.

You will play a decisive role in capital structure planning, commercial investment decisions, and the execution of complex project finance transactions that underpin the company’s rapid expansion.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate degree (MBA or similar) preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in capital-intensive industries (renewable energy, mining, or infrastructure)
  • Strong expertise in Project Finance, with relationships in Southern African banking and investment circles
  • Track record in corporate finance, financial reporting (IFRS), and strategic leadership
  • Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary finance teams
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and commercial acumen
  • Strong ERP and financial systems experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French or a South African language an advantage)

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and Executive Committee
  • Lead financial strategy, capital planning, and performance management across the group
  • Manage project finance transactions and institutional funding relationships
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and reporting across multiple entities and project SPVs
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-calibre finance team
  • Strengthen internal controls, risk frameworks, and governance
  • Support M&A and energy trading opportunities as the business scales
