A leading EPC in the renewable energy sector is seeking a registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) to take on the role of Head of Engineering. This senior position will be responsible for leading the technical direction, engineering design, and quality assurance of the company’s Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

The ideal candidate will bring both strategic oversight and hands-on technical expertise, ensuring that all projects are executed to the highest engineering standards. This role offers the opportunity to shape the engineering function of a dynamic and growing renewable energy company that is driving South Africa’s clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, ensuring technical excellence and collaboration
  • Oversee the design, integration, and implementation of Solar PV and BESS systems
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, processes, and quality assurance procedures
  • Review and approve technical documentation, designs, and drawings for accuracy and compliance
  • Provide expert guidance through all stages of project development and execution
  • Collaborate with internal departments, clients, and partners to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Contribute technical expertise during feasibility studies, proposals, and bid submissions
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation across the engineering function

Requirements

  • BEng or MEng in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) with ECSA (essential)
  • Minimum 6–8 years’ experience in the renewable energy or power sector
  • Proven technical expertise in Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects
  • Strong understanding of system design, grid compliance, and relevant South African standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
