NOTE: Only applicants with experience conducting business in Francophone countries will be considered - an ability to converse in BUSINESS FRENCH IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. Opportunity to assist with relocation to Kenya is possible - for the RIGHT candidate.
We are looking for a French-speaking (and written) entrepreneur who is interested in forging a career in the private equity space as an Investment Analyst. Focusing on market research and deal origination your goal will be to enable entrepreneurs in emerging markets, specifically markets which few investment firms venture into. Our client is a lean and agile organisation that want professionals who have set up their own businesses, and more importantly – failed. Reason? Well, if you are going to sit on the seat of the board for your investment portfolio of start-up businesses, you are going to need to be humble and brutally honest… able to advise them on what works and what does not!
You must be able to speak and write French fluently (as well as enjoy learning new languages) as you travel to clients throughout West and East Africa – providing high-level feedback and proposals in both English and French. You will be someone who does not mind spending 70% of the year travelling to new territories – a bit of an adventure “junkie” per se. You will have a degree in finance, engineering, or the sciences. You will be an extrovert, able to think out of the box and always turning to analytics to benchmark your reasoning and suggestions. EQ and IQ are a must as you navigate how best to ensure investments are bankable and strategic. You will have 4+ years’ experience in project finance and have exposure to infrastructure investments. Having worked with a venture capital or private equity team will play to your advantage for this career opportunity, you will understand how these firms operate. Reporting directly to the MD and working in a close-knit team, you will find yourself conducting the first screening of the firm’s potential investments. You will need to be sharp, ensuring that all boxes are ticked when it comes to conducting the due diligence requirements associated to the financial, social, and environmental performance as well as the operational performance of their potential investments. You must have experience conducting financial modeling, impact assessments and evaluating ESG demands. What is fantastic about this opportunity is that you will play a key role throughout the investment portfolio’s life cycle, from cradle to grave – you will start from initial prospecting right through to monitoring and evaluation before exit.
If you are a people person, entrepreneurial and analytically inclined, you will thrive in this position. The firm likes go-getters and people who want to grow with them and work towards having shares in the company – and this is very possible for the right professional. Someone who has clear goals and career objectives.
NB: Please note that this is initially a contract position with an opportunity to become a permanent position in the firm if you show your value add.
