We are seeking a junior Project Engineer to join a growing renewable energy team, overseeing the delivery and technical execution of solar PV and BESS projects. The ideal candidate is technically minded, enjoys being involved in both the construction and operational phases, and has proven experience coordinating EPC contractors and ensuring projects meet quality, safety, and performance standards.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working on solar PV and/or BESS projects
  • Experience coordinating EPC contractors and managing project execution or commissioning
  • Solid understanding of solar and battery technologies, system layouts, and performance monitoring
  • Familiarity with South African electrical regulations, grid codes, and compliance standards
  • Fluency in English; Afrikaans proficiency is highly advantageous

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and oversee solar PV and BESS projects from design through construction, commissioning, and handover
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource plans with EPC contractors and internal teams
  • Track milestones, identify risks, and implement corrective measures to deliver projects on time and within scope
  • Manage EPC contractors and sub-contractors to ensure work aligns with project requirements and quality standards
  • Conduct site inspections to verify workmanship, equipment installation, and compliance with safety and electrical standards
  • Support operational monitoring of solar and battery systems, troubleshooting underperformance or technical faults
  • Contribute to maintenance planning and performance reporting frameworks
  • Ensure all projects comply with South African electrical and grid standards (NERSA, Eskom, municipal regulations)
  • Maintain project documentation, permits, and asset records for audits, performance analysis, and reporting purposes
  • Communicate effectively with EPC contractors, O&M providers, and internal teams to achieve project objectives

SKILLS

  • Strong organisational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities
  • Dynamic, proactive, and solution-oriented with a strong interest in renewable energy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for coordination with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to conduct site visits, including rooftop and elevated inspections
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project management tools and monitoring platforms is advantageous
