This role, however, requires the perfect candidate to first and foremostly have 4+ years’ experience operating within the renewable energy O&M space, must without a doubt – have their GCC (Factories) and have been appointed as a GMR 2.1 or 2.7 in their career. Furthermore, since you will be acting as the technical expert for change management on control systems as well as on the operational aspects of the assets machinery and the GSAMS Authorisation Framework – you need to have experience across these disciplines and technical specifications. When you go to site, you must be able to advise the technical teams based on proven experience.
Having a degree in Electrical (or Mechanical) Engineering is a must – thus a strong foundation of knowledge that is built on best practices will be essential to perform as per the expectations. This role will see you taking on a leadership position as you will be responsible for the three core areas of O&M which speaks to your experience. You must be well-versed with machinery regulations and best practices, able to train the operators on standards and demands for the firm’s effective operations and in turn, see to the assessments for authorisations and action the implementation of the authorisation framework. In addition, you will conduct the site inspections, ensuring they are compliant with GMR 2.1 as well as sign off the maintenance plans – all with a keen eye to detail pertaining to any risks which could arise in light of the H&S aspects. You must have experience working with engineering systems which include PQSCADA, Perception, and PTM. Over and above these described needs of the role, if you have implemented NFPA 70E or IEEE 1584 standards as well as trained staff on ORHVS – then you are the ideal candidate for this role!
In essence, your ultimate objective is to ensure that the plants are operating as they should be, that risks are reduced, and where possible, intelligent optimization techniques are always adapted by the team. You will be at the heart of the companies O&M success for each of their plants and will be the technical expert that your team admires specifically for your ability to drive quality and insight into how effectively the assets are run. Expect to travel frequently to the various renewable energy projects across South Africa. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree is vital
GCC (Factories) certification is non-negotiable
4+ years’ experience within an O&M environment, preferably of a utility-scale power plant for solar projects
Proven experience working on plants varying in size from 1MW to 100MW
Must have been appointed as GMR 2.1 or GMR 2.7
Experience training on ORHVS and formal risk assessment
Must have implemented IEEE 1584 standards or NFPA 70E
Proven expertise which speaks to technical aspects of plant maintenance and operations as well as the optimization and change management thereof
You need to be a pro when it comes to control systems
