We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Business Developer to come aboard a team who are competitive, efficient, and innovative! This opportunity will give you the chance to focus on new activities relating to low carbon power generation activities within Southern Africa’s markets and potentially in other countries across Africa. If you have landed 1+ MW scale projects, then this could definitely be for you!

To be the perfect fit for this role, you will have a degree in Engineering, Economics or Finance with an international MBA. You will  have REIPPPP origination experience and have a proven track record in successful financial close in the development and implementation of non-recourse financed IPP projects. You are someone who is highly detail-orientated and will ensure only the best quality outputs are produced. Working in a fast-paced, competitive environment won’t be a challenge for you. As the Senior BD, you will be responsible for populating the project pipeline, putting together necessary project documentation, scouting for the best options of project components, and reviewing all relevant and critical aspects of projects. In order to succeed in this role, you need to have a thorough understanding and knowledge of agreements, contracts and licenses required to develop, finance, construct and operate power generation or gas businesses. It is also vital that you have experience in negotiation as you will be responsible for negotiating confidentiality agreements. Additionally, this role will also require you to regularly travel throughout Africa, specifically in Southern Africa.

Education Requirements

Degree in Engineering, Finance or Economics
International MBA is beneficial

Experience Requirements

11+ years experience with international business transactions and project development within the power generation space
Must have landed 1+ MW scale REIPPPP projects
Previous experience with the technical, financial and legal aspects of business transactions
Proven track record in successful financial close in the development and implementation of non-recourse financed IPP projects – we want to see your project list!
Experience in gas BD is beneficial
Thorough knowledge of Africa’s energy markets
Good knowledge of power technologies


Your responsibilities include developing and building knowledge of the power and gas sector in SA, managing the development of specific projects and negotiations, leading the overall project development process from the beginning to financial close, and partnering with various support and departmental function within and outside of the company’s African business unit.


IT proficient, specifically with MS Office
Commercial and technical skills
Ability to work in fast-paced, competitive environment
Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to work in a team
Highly detail-orientated, ensuring high quality outputs are produced
Ability to produce under pressure
