An international renewable energy developer and EPC contractor is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead civil and structural engineering activities for large-scale solar PV plants and hybrid (BESS) systems. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in bulk earthworks, stormwater management, and structural design, with a proven background in solar PV or BESS infrastructure projects, ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and timely delivery of projects from development through to construction and commissioning.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (or working toward it)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5–7 years of experience in civil design and project execution
  • Proven track record on solar PV or BESS infrastructure projects
  • Experience with bulk earthworks, stormwater management, and structural design
  • Exposure to large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects
  • International project experience is advantageous

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead civil and structural design for PV plants, including layouts, foundations, access roads, drainage, and earthworks
  • Review and approve geotechnical, hydrological, and topographical studies
  • Optimise site layouts to reduce costs and environmental impacts
  • Ensure compliance with local and international standards and permitting requirements
  • Review contractor designs, method statements, and shop drawings
  • Oversee quality control and adherence to HSE standards
  • Conduct site inspections and resolve civil/structural issues during construction
  • Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams for integrated project delivery
  • Support project managers with scheduling, cost estimation, and risk assessments

SKILLS

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and drainage design tools
  • Strong knowledge of SANS 1200, BS EN 1990, BS 6031, and related standards
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in English (French is a plus)
  • High attention to detail, strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally for project support
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
